It's a New Year!

January is often the month where I have the lowest readership, so if you’re reading this right now, thank you, I really appreciate it.

If you missed it when it first went live, the last of my 2019 “Best Things of the Year” articles is now up over on Medium. Read it, and you’ll find out what my favorite wired headphones were last year.

Typically, the first quarter is when I dip my toe into the cheap end of the tech spectrum. All the new product releases are out, Christmas is over, and tech won’t get “exciting” again for a number of months, so it’s the perfect time to buy cheaper and older headphones and see what’s up with them.

I’m still planning to do that this year, but I’m also going to catch up on all the half-finished game reviews sitting in my drafts queue. Here’s what I’ve got in progress, in no particular order:

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice review. As my last gaming act of 2019, I played through the Switch version of Hellblade. It turned out really well, and I’ll have a review of this game that everyone already knows is great coming out soon.

Essential Games: SuperFX Classics. In last month’s blog update, I mentioned I was working on an article about classic SNES games using the SuperFX processing chip. The very next day, Nintendo announced that Star Fox 2 was coming to the Switch classics service. So, I delayed the article so I could include that game as well.

Assassin’s Creed Rebel Collection Review. I’ll buy as many AC games as Ubisoft wants to put on the Switch. Gods and Monsters is set to be the debut of the modern iteration of the engine on Switch hardware, leaving me curious as to whether Origins and Odyssey ports aren’t far behind. I’m bummed that Gods and Monsters got delayed, but Rebel Collection has more than enough content to hold you over in the meantime.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Definitive Edition Review. I never actually reviewed the Definitive Edition of this game, in spite of including the port on my “Top 7 Dynasty Warriors Games of 2018” list. So I thought I should remedy that. That list is still my favorite listicle I’ve ever written.

River City Girls Review. I’ve been near the end of this game for about two months now. Time to remedy that!

This is literally a fraction of the gaming content I’ve let slip by the wayside in favor of recommending cheap wireless headphones. I’m not giving up the audio content, but since this is a slow time of year for that anyway, it’s the perfect time to explore my other passions some more and regain a balance between my different types of content.

Thanks for reading, and Happy New Year.
